The Good Boss (15)

2021 |Spain| Dir. Fernando León de Aranoa | 116 minutes

The film received a record-breaking 20 nominations from the Spanish Academy’s Goya Awards

It isn’t easy to find good comedies among the sea of less than uplifting film titles in the independent sector. This one has been a huge success in Spain. The charismatic Javier Bardem plays Blanco, the owner of a successful factory making weighing scales. Blanco models himself as a fatherly and good boss but is in fact blandly and complacently sexist and racist and in the habit of seducing attractive female interns. He gets his comeuppance when José whom he has just made redundant with a derisory payoff, sets up a protest camp just outside the factory – just as industry award judges are about to arrive. Good fun!
